Mammoth Lakes, Calif., June 5, 2025 —Inyo National Forest will open Reds Meadow Road to the general public this weekend, June 7 and 8, and remain closed thereafter until the planned July 3 opening date and schedule described on the website:

www.fs.usda.gov/r05/inyo/conditions/reds-meadow-road-reconstruction-project

“We wanted to open as much public access as possible before construction begins on June 9,” said Mammoth District Ranger, Fred Wong. “However, for the rest of the three weekends in June, it is unlikely the road will be safe enough to open unless contractors finish the downhill side soil stabilization work ahead of schedule.”

The gate at Minaret Vista guard station will open at 8:00 a.m.  on June 7, and close at 11:00 p.m. on June 8. The Day use fee costs $10, and only credit cards are accepted. Although normal two-wheel drive passenger vehicles can drive the road, it is not paved yet. Please drive slowly and carefully. Recreational vehicles such as campers are not recommended.

The road will reopen for Independence Day weekend starting on July 2 at 8:00 p.m. through July 6 at 11:00 p.m. with a mandatory ESTA shuttle bus
