Lake Russell Recreation Area Campground

Lake Russell Campground is currently open and ready for you to reserve a site on your next visit to this beautiful campground. Camping is by reservation only. 

This developed campground offers 42 campsites that accommodate both tent and RV camping distributed along two paved campground loop roads for easy access to the Lake Russell Recreation Area

Loop A

  • 16 camping sites
  • 1 Conventional flush restroom.
  • Standard amenities (i.e. fire rings, picnic tables, lantern posts, etc)
  • Easy access to the Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area on the trail system that goes around the lake
  • Dump Station located just outside Loop A.

Loop B 

  • 26 camping sites.
  • 2 Conventional flush restrooms, all with hot showers
  • Standard amenities (i.e. grill, picnic tables, lantern post, etc).
  • Easy access to the Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area on the trail system that goes around the lake

RV Camping

A dump station is located near the entrance to Loop A.

No electricity at the sites. 

Water at spigots within the loop

The length of stay is 14 days.

Lake Russell Campground is currently open and ready for you to reserve a site on your next visit to this beautiful campground. All Camping is by Reservation Only. There is no First Come/First Serve. Reservations are done by contacting: www.recreation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777.

General Information

year-round - year-round

The check-out time is at noon. The reservation check-in time is 2 p.m. Loop A is open spring to late fall/early winter. 

Georgia fishing license required for fishing. 
America the Beautiful Senior or Access pass, Golden Age and Golden Access passes are accepted for the 50% discount on camping.

The length of stay is limited to 14 days. All campers must vacate the site at the 14-day maximum in order to allow other visitors to enjoy the same site. On the lake there are no gasoline-powered motors allowed; only electric trolling motors are permitted. After the camper(s) has/have accumulated 14 days within any 30-day time period, the camper(s) must leave that area/campground and move from Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest land for 30 days before returning for another stay. You must be at least 150 yards (450 feet) from a campground or any developed recreation area including parking lots, picnic sites, or interior-developed trails to hunt or discharge a firearm.

Camping: $24/site/night single, $48/double site/night

3059 Lake Russell Rd., Mt. Airy, GA

Take Ga 365/U.S. 23 North from Gainesville past Cornelia to Hwy 197. Turn right for approximately 3 miles until dead-end. Right on Dicks Hill Parkway for approx.3/4 mile. Turn left onto the paved Lake Russell Road.
