Morgan Lake Recreation Area

Whether you prefer to camp by yourself or with a group, try Morgan Lake Recreation Area for a variety of facilities for your camping pleasure off Highway 139 southeast of Long Lake.

The Morgan Lake Recreation Area on the Florence District consists of 18 individual family campsites in addition to a group campsite that can handle up to 25 people. This site is separated from the other sites to ensure privacy.

Day use facilities include a clear 45-acre lake. Only electric motors are permitted on the lake. A beach, small picnic area, boat access with ramp, year-round fishing, accessible pit and vault toilets and drinking water are also available at this scenic recreation area.

Did you forget something? Don’t sweat it! The small city of Long Lake can meet your camping supply needs ranging from groceries to firewood.

General Information

Camping

Morgan Lake Campground offers 18 individual family sites in the main campground. Utility hookups are not available and parking surfaces are gravel. The family sites are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings with grills, accessible pit and vault toilets and drinking water. Trash collection and recycling bins are also available throughout the campground. All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s) and Utility-Terrain Vehicles (UTV’s) are permitted in this campground.

Group Camping

In addition to family campsites in the main campground, Morgan Lake Campground offers a single, large-group campsite, available for tent and RV camping. It can accommodate up to 25 people and four vehicles, as well as one RV or trailer.

May 2 - October 15

The USDA Forest Service honors all four Interagency Recreation Passes that may be applied at National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Fish and Wildlife sites charging recreation use fees.

Restrictions for all National Forest System lands can be found by visiting Title 36 Code of Federal Regulations 261. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest specific restrictions can be found on the Orders of the Forest Supervisor page.

 

Campsite Capacity

  • Maximum of 8 people and 4 vehicles at each camp site.
  • Vehicle capacity limit includes vehicles, wheeled camping units and trailers.

Firewood Closure Order

  • Our firewood closure order prohibits the possession, storage, or transport of any firewood that originates from more than 25 miles from your campsite. Firewood certified by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Transportation and Consumer Protection can originate from more than 25 miles from National Forest destination.
  • Pallet boards are not approved.

ATV/UTV Rules and Regulations

  • Must stay on gravel surfaces. No parking or driving off of road or campsite.
  • Vehicles are to be used for entering and exiting campground. No joyriding within campground.
  • Do not drive in water/at water's edge

Individual campsite fee is $15/night for family site; $35/night for group sites. Nightly fees are half of price shown with use of Interagency Senior or Access Pass. Interagency Pass discounts apply only to the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass holder.

Directions

From Laona travel north 7 miles to Highway 139. Turn left (north) on Highway 139 and continue for 11 miles to FR 2161. Turn right (east) and drive 7.8 miles to the campground.
