Tribal Relations

One of the primary responsibilities of the Tribal Relations program is to ensure that consultation with area tribes is conducted according to federal law and Forest Service policy

Tribal consultation and scoping is conducted as required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Executive Order 13175, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) and other federal laws, regulations and policies.

The Wallowa-Whitman National Forest routinely consults with the Nez Perce Tribe and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla.
