Continuing Education for Natural Resource Professionals

How to apply

Forest Service Candidates

A call for nominations goes out from the National office in spring through each Region and Research Stations & Areas. Everyone can self-register in AgLearn or directly with the vendor. Not all training is listed in AgLearn.

Supervisors can forward nominations to the Regional Coordinator, following the Region's nomination process (Most Regions use AgLearn). Research Stations & Areas can self-register in AgLearn or forward nominations to the National CE-BPR Program Leader. Either registering directly with vendors or sending names to National/Regional Coordinators, we will work to be sure you get to training. There isn't a straight line process at this point in time.

SF-182 are completed in AgLearn. Most vendors accept credit cards.

Once confirmed, participants are obligated to pay the tuition, fixed costs or find a substitute. Confirmation will occur in October via AgLearn and emails from Regional Continuing Education Coordinators and the National Continuing Education Program Leader. This applies whether you register through your Regional Coordinator or through AgLearn.

If a confirmed participant needs to withdraw, he/she must immediately contact his/her Regional or National Coordinator for assistance in finding a substitute. Trying to withdraw from a workshop with only a few weeks notice will be difficult and is NOT recommended. If a substitute is not found then tuition will still have to be paid (a few rare exceptions are made but this is at the vendor's discretion). Every effort will be made to assist participants with their individual needs. Expect to be actively involved in finding a substitute.

Unit Funded: If you are funded by your unit and not waiting to receive regional funding, you can register directly through AgLearn or the vendor. Visit our 'Registering In AgLearn' page for detailed instructions.

REGISTRATION & SF182 HEADS UP: There are 2 steps in AgLearn you must do.
Step 1: Registering for your training. Follow the "Registering in AgLearn" information.

Step 2: Complete your SF182 in AgLearn. You can reverse the order if you want. But doing one step does NOT automatically trigger the other item in AgLearn.

All the training listed in our CE program have SF182 content information. Look for it at each course's webpage. Contact the CE-BPR National Program Leader (switt01"at"fs.fed.us) for help. Once you get that done you continue with getting lodging, plane reservations, etc. Kudos to you for being willing to work so hard to get training.

"Everyone Else" Candidates

Candidates from other agencies, States, Tribes, private industry, International countries or the public interested in enrolling can apply to the National CE-BPR Program Leader or directly to the vendor of each workshop. You can apply at anytime.

Tuition

Tuition does not cover lodging, meals or transportation (there are occasional exceptions). Limited tuition dollars are available through a few Regional offices during the nomination process for Forest Service personnel. Responsibility for payment of all costs (e.g., tuition and travel) rests solely with the nominating unit, unless Regional Office tuition funding is obtained. It is strongly recommended that when you are developing your budget for "out years" (2018, 2019, etc.) be sure to include funding for training.

Please confirm with your Regional coordinator regarding regional funding options.

Once confirmed, participants are obligated to pay the tuition, fixed costs or find a substitute.
