Intermittent closures on Forest Road 46 through June 20
Fire recovery project to repair road connecting Detroit and Estacada
Contact Information: SM.FS.R6PressDesk@usda.gov
Detroit, Oregon - Through June 20, Forest Service Road (FSR) 46 on the Detroit Ranger District will have scheduled closures between Fox Creek and Cleator Bend Campgrounds. The road closure is required to repair a large fill failure at mile post 8.6, near Cleator Bend. While there will be a detour and some open windows, drivers will be least impacted by traveling on weekends or after 5:00 p.m.
This fire recovery road repair project requires drilling and stabilizing on both lanes of traffic, which will make the road temporarily impassible. There will be two longer duration total closures, which will require the use of a detour along alternate forest roads.
- Until May 24, both lanes of FSR 46 will be closed Monday–Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The road will open to traffic between 9:00- 9:30 a.m. and again from 12:30- 1:00 p.m.
- From May 19–22 and May 27–June 6, no through traffic will be allowed, including over the weekends.
- From June 9–June 20, FSR 46 will be closed Monday–Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The road will open to traffic between 9:00- 9:30 a.m. and again from 12:30- 1:00 p.m.
- FSR 46 will remain open to traffic on weekend days, except May 31- June 1.
If drivers wish to travel during the closure they will need to take a marked detour traveling on both the Willamette and Mt. Hood National Forests. Please see the detour map to see if you may be affected and to plan your route. Please be aware that a portion of FSR 6350 (Mt. Hood) is currently an active haul route and log trucks may be on the road.
All drivers on national forest lands are encouraged to have a free paper or digital copy of the Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM), which shows all legal roads on the Forest.
